We had such an abrupt and early end to summer that I think it shocked me into the whole "change, sudden, mortality" deal. But just appreciating the colors is way nice.
I heard something interesting a few days ago: the leaves on the trees are always in "fall colors" if you will, but the chlorophyll covers them up, making them appear green. So, it is like their true nature is obscured, but when it is near the time for them to depart, they get to reveal their true brilliance. Mmmmm...I liked that.
What the caterpillar calls the end of the world, the master calls a butterfly :-)

Wow, Dr. J!
ReplyDeleteWhat a really beautiful quote. I'm familiar with Richard Bach, but hadn't heard that one.
Thanks for sharing it.
Wonderful poem!
ReplyDeleteThough I prefer to enjoy the pretty colors and pretend there are absolutely no implications about mortality and the passage of time.
Big fan of denial over here!
De-nial ain't just a river in Egypt, for sure!
