I was thinking of this poem as kind of having a double meaning--it could be waking up from ordinary sleep, or waking up from complacency, which is good, but often painful.
I enjoy condensing long, rambling and complex thoughts and feelings into simple and minimalist poetry. It's an enjoyable hobby for me.
I write poetry also. Occasionally I put one on my column. Sometimes I go back and read stuff from years ago. Interesting, it can really say a lot about how I was feeling at the time.
If you want to write poetry for fun, AND get feedback about it, check out this site: http://www.zoetrope.com/. I've been posting there since 2003 (sometimes a lot, sometimes barely). You can post poetry, fiction, etc., and also review others works. It's fun.
Most of the time, I love my in-color, vivid dreams. Occasionally, I'm glad to wake up from them!
